As surely as life begins…life must end. It is what takes place in between these two facts that really matters.

Dr. Ramona Shepherd Adams, better known to us as "Mom", passed away quietly and peacefully June 21st, 2014. She was with her husband and other family members on her way back to her favorite spot in St. George, Utah. Her life began December 17, l921 in Paris, Idaho.

Mother was an author, a professor, a leader in church, state and community, but her first and foremost priority was her 8 children and husband. When the youngest of the eight children started kindergarten she began a remarkable 40+ year professional career. Mother did whatever she wanted to do, whenever she wanted to, whether it be traveling the world many times, riding an elephant in Thailand in her 80th year, being with her friends, sisters or associates she never lost track of the needs and wants of her immediate family. It was as if she had a homing device attached to all of us. Even as the Associate Dean of Students at the University of Utah, she always instructed her staff that if "the kids" called, "Put them through."

Her greatest accomplishment was her family. She was married to her lifelong companion, Wendell Ellison Adams, for 73+ years. They had 8 children, Graig (deceased), Stan (Arlene), John (deceased)(Judy), Ann Bradshaw (Dee), Doug (Jody), Richard (Susan), Wendy Mendenhall, and Kathy Sidwell (Jeff), along with honorable mentions: Cathy, CB, Brent, Patty, Sherrie, Roxanne, Jana and Hawk. They have 43 grand and great grandchildren of whom she loved and took such pride in each and every one. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She will be sorely missed by her last remaining sister Au-Deane Cowley (Carter). And there are so very many close and dear friends to mention that shared in Mom's life's adventure: Aunt Dee Dee (Sister), Shauna, Diane, Emma Lou, Ann, Rita, Kathryn, Mary, Marge, Ruth, Jean and Susan Anne … she will miss you all dearly. She had a GREAT life and is off on a new journey and trust us ... they will know upstairs when she arrives!

Her professional accomplishments were endless. Even with a Master's degree in Social Work, a Doctorate degree in Psychology and the Perlman Award, the heart and soul of her life was the never ending ability to inspire people to achieve their potential or be there to support those who needed her strength to help get them through troubled times.

Her other passion, besides the women's movement and long hours at her profession, was the love of all kinds of sports. Basketball was her favorite and we all watched many hours of sports with her over the years.

A very special thank you from the bottom of our hearts must go to our sister Wendy and her dear friend Shelly for the never ending dedication and love they have shown to Mom and Dad over the last couple of years. Mom's life was made so much better. Thank you to you both.

At Mom's request, there will be no formal services. Our family would love to re-live wonderful memories of our remarkable wife, mother and friend with each of you at an Open House at Dad and Mom's home, 1727 East Countryside Drive (3625 South) on Sunday, June 29th, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 pm.

As a family, as close friends, and as a community, she will be sorely missed. But there is no question her ability to touch the hearts of many, has just been renewed. Until we meet again, Rae and Mom … you are loved.

She was truly a Renaissance woman.
