Saluda - Jean Feagle Shealy, widow of Berley J. Shealy, joined the church triumphant on July 27, 2014 with her family by her side at Saluda Nursing Center. She was born June 28, 1923, the only child of Earle and Inell Wheeler Feagle. She grew up in Saluda, SC, graduating from Saluda High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Newberry College where she met her beloved husband, Berley, (deceased, October 17, 2004). They were married in Saluda, SC, March 24, 1950, and moved to Decatur, Georgia, where they lived for more than 45 years. Jean was a classic, intellectual and quiet Southern Lady. Her strong Christian faith provided strength for her during the loss of her beloved husband, loss of her eyesight and her battle with bladder cancer. She loved having her very own personal pharmacist and medical advocate, Tim Gable. They could talk medical language due to her many years of service in a medical setting. Her Joe Corley was her personal chauffeur, and handyman of all sorts. She embraced them as her sons, along with Ora and Dale as her daughters. Jean worked many years for various medical providers; Dr. Harold Whiteman and Dr. L. Dan Johnson were two she cherished. In retirement, Jean and Berley returned to Saluda. In 2004, they moved to the Heritage at Lowman. With her health declining in March of 2014, Jean returned to Saluda. At each place she lived, Jean met and made many dear friends. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by special cousins, Ora Corley (Joe), and Dale Moore Gable (Tim), dear friends and other extended family members. A graveside service will be held at Travis Park Cemetery (Travis Avenue, Saluda, SC) on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. with visitation before the service at 10 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ramey Funeral Home, 202 North Rudolph Street, Saluda, SC is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church, 101 North Calhoun Street, Saluda, SC 29138, the Saluda Nursing Center, 598 Newberry Highway, Saluda, SC 29138 or to the charity of one's choice . The family is grateful for the compassionate and loving care Jean received from the medical staff of Saluda Nursing Center and the Heritage at Lowman. © The State, Columbia, SC, 29 Jul 2014
