Mr. Clarence J. "Fick" Fickel, 83, of LaPorte, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 28, 1926, in LaPorte to Clarence and Hattie (Schmidt) Fickel.

Mr. Fickel retired from Dye Plumbing and Heating as a plumber after 38 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He played in the U.S. Marine Corps Band as a coronet player. He was a member of No. 172 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union of South Bend, IN.

On April 12, 1947, in LaPorte, he married Betty L. Nelson, who survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Nickolas Fickel; and two brothers, Walter and Warren Fickel.

In honor of his wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date.
