Early Life: Bert was born September 15, 1928, in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington, to Einer Emanuel and Nettie Ivie Ostlund. He enjoyed his childhood experiences in the Cascade Mountains. At age sixteen, he began working in the shipyards during World War II.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Bert attended Arizona State University, later, transferring to Brigham Young University where he earned his B.A. in History and Economics. His many grandchildren and great-grandchildren treasured the time they spent with him. He enjoyed sharing his woodworking hobby and skills with them, as well as, camping and boating with family. In addition, he loved the many trips he took with Margaret, a highlight being their trip to China. Bert taught History in Nebo School District, a subject he enjoyed throughout his life. He subsequently worked for U.S. Steel in Salt Lake City, Cedar City and San Francisco. He later worked for the Geneva Steel Plant in Orem. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was always the center of Bert's life. He served as a Bishop, a member of several High Councils and found joy in the many callings he had as a Gospel Doctrine teacher.
