"Mrs. Gotlieb Bachman Dead, Mrs. Gotlieb Bachman died at her home north of Wood, August 17th, 1921, after a lingering illness. The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased last Sunday. Rev. Salter of the local church conducted the service and the remains were laid to rest in the Episcopal cemetery just south of town.
Lena Wurst was born in South Russia, January 9th, 1888, and when about fourteen years of age she came to the United States with her parents, locating in Henryetta, Texas. There she met and married Gotlieb Bachman and to this union seven children were born, six sons and one daughter. Two of the children died in their infancy when but a few days old in their former Texas home.
In 1912 they moved to South Dakota, taking up a homestead north of Wood, where they have since resided. Since coming to South Dakota two sons have passed from this life, one of them having been taken away with the flu epidemic. Mrs. Bachman has been a sufferer from the white plague for some time, and about a year ago she was taken to New Mexico and later to her old home in Texas, with the hope that the climate there would improve her health, but all of no avail, and this spring she returned to her home in Mellette county, to be with her family during her remaining days on this earth.
She leaves a husband, three small sons and a sister, to mourn her death. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their hour of sadness."
