Jesse Ferrel, one of Gravette's oldest citizens died Jan. 28, 1916 at the home of his son, J.M. Ferrel, in Rocky Dell neighborhood, aged 91 years, 4 months and eight days. The body was laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant cemetery beside that of his wife who preceded him 27 years.
Jesse A. Ferrel was born in Sangamon Co., Ill. Sept. 20, 1824 where he lived until he was grown then moved to Grant Co., Wis. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Susanna Powell in 1851. To this union were born nine children; four of whom survive him: J.M. Ferrel and Mrs. J.M. Berry of Gravette, who were present when death came; Mrs. Rachel Shafer of Sarcoxie, Mo. and Mrs. Isabel Loghry of Ochalata, Okla., who came shortly after his death.
He leaves several grandchildren, including Mrs. Fred Keeler of Gravette and a number of great grandchildren. Mr. Ferrel came to Arkansas in 1885 and has resided on the same farm near Gravette for 30 years. He has been a member of the Presbyterian church for a number of years. He served his country three years in the civil war as a Union soldier. He was a splendid type of good citizen and enjoyed the friendship of a host of people here.
