Funeral services for Russell L. Paxton, 76, of Lubbock, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Abernathy First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. John Donnerberg, pastor of First Church of the Nazarene in Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in Abernathy Cemetery by Abell Funeral home.

Mr. Paxton died Thursday, May 23, 1996, in St. Mary Hospital in Lubbock.

He was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Jester, Okla. He moved to Lubbock from Abernathy in 1948. He had served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War. He was a retired farmer.

He married Myrtle Neal on Dec. 5, 1942, in Pecos.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bruce Paxton of Lubbock; three daughters, Sharon Reedy of Lubbock, Lila Chesser of Pampa and Donna Williamson of Acworth, Ga.; five brothers, Arlie and Stanley Paxton, both of Abernathy, Thurmon Paxton of Mangum, Okla., Marvin Paxton of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Donald Paxton of Houston; two sisters, Verna Oden of Lubbock and Elouise Stanley of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was a brother-in-law of Paul Sims and an uncle to Sandra Sims and Doug Sims, all of Plainview.
