She was born Edna M. Nettleton on November 23, 1919, in Pickford, to Samuel James Nettleton and Laura Emma (Blair) Nettleton.
Edna Nettleton and Kenneth Bawks were married October 9, 1940, in St. Ignace, and celebrated more than 60 years of marriage before his death in 2002.
She was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church in Pickford, and she loved visiting with friends and family members, cooking, baking cookies for her grandsons, canning, and sledding. Friends recall that she made any visitor feel welcome in her home.
Mrs. Bawks was survived by two grandsons, Kenneth Bawks and Randy Bawks, both of Pickford; one daughter-in-law, Betty Bawks of Pickford; two sisters, Mary Anderson of Pickford and Eva Anderson of Minnesota; one brother and his family, Barney and Marjorie Nettleton of Pickford, and many nieces and nephews, including Sandy Hill, who had been Mrs. Bawk's guardian for the past few years.
Mrs. Bawks was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; one son, Kenneth Wayne Bawks in 1996; two daughters, Adrianne Bawks in 1974 and Ada Bawks in 1978, and three brothers, Harry Nettleton, Russell Nettleton, and Glen Nettleton.
