Daughter of Irwin Ray Otto and Edna Gertrude Whitcomb of Osage, Mitchell, IA.. Edna Otto died the day after Marian was born and her father later married Ruth McLery of Paymyra, Wisconsin. She married Don Woodrow Arnold of Grinnell on Dec 27, 1938. They had three children: Frederick Martin, Stephen Irwin and Gretchen Ruth. Don and Marian's remains were laid to rest together in Hazelwood Cemetery on August 13, 2005 by their loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
