Martin Olson was born to Ole and Ingeborg (Nilsdatter) Amundsen on May 9, 1839 in Halland, Nordland, Norway. He married Christiana Kristoffersdatter in Holand, Norway at Loken Church on February 3, 1863, They had two children before emigrating to Wisconsin on July 1, 1867: Carolina Ofelia and Mathilda Julia. Christiana passed away in 1867.

Martin then married Gustina Amalia Norle on May 29, 1871 in Stockholm, Pepin County, Wisconsin. They had 8 children: OaxE, Amelia Christina, Johan Adolf, Ida Marie, Elmer, Hilma Josephine, Ella Wilhelmina, and Elvin Arthur. Martin died in Stockholm, Wisconsin on July 10, 1917.
