Emanuel Backey
LIMA -- Emanuel Benjamin Backey, 93, of Lima, and formerly of Mendon, died at 10:31 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Aug. 20, 1910 in Van Buren Twp., Hancock County, to Benjamin and Lydia (Ziegenfuss) Backey. He married Cecile E. Wharton Oct. 8, 1944 and she died April 15, 1999.
Preceding him in death is a brother, Theodore H.
Mr. Backey had been a longtime farmer in the Mendon area. Emanuel was a veteran of WWII serving in the Air Force under General George Kenny for four years in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Lima Post No. 1275.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington, the Rev. Don Byard officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Van Buren Twp.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
