Mr. Goforth died Monday, July 2, in Wellington Care Center.

He and Mrs. Goforth had returned recently from Amarillo. A co-owner of Goforth Constuction, he was responsible for the building of many businesses, buildings, schools and homes in the Wellington area over a number of years.

Frank Goforth was born at Sulphur Springs in Red River County, Texas, Nov. 29, 1898, the son of W.L. (Fate) and Nancy Goforth.

In 1907 his parents, brother Earl, two sisters, Billie and Motie, and he moved to Shamrock in a covered wagon. In 1911 they came to Wellington.

He married Verna Smith in 1917. She was the daughter of Henry and Ara Bell Smith.

Becoming a bricklayer at an early age, his first contract was the Chapman building at age 19. Later he and his brother formed Goforth Brothers Construction Co. They built many of the area schools, including the first brick high school at Quail, Booker T. Washington, Bean Hill and had the brick contract, on the present Wellington Jr. High School. Many of the buildings on and around the square were built by them in the 1920s.

In 1931 at the height of the Great Depression, he moved his family to Los Angeles, CA. This is where his sons finished their education and entered World War II This was to happen again in 1950 when all three sons entered the Korean War.

About this time, Mr. and Mrs. Goforth returned to Amarillo, and he joined his brother, Earl Goforth and the brothers were again in the construction business.

During a visit in Wellington, he was asked to lay brick on a new home under construction. Before the job was finished, the new addition for St. Joseph's Hospital came up. He and his brother Earl got the job.

In 1952, Mr. Goforth's youngest son, Bob Goforth came from California to join his father in business and worked with him the next 11 years. In 1962 they began what was to be Frank Goforth's last building project, the Cherokee Inn in Wellington.

Mr. and Mrs. Goforth moved to Amarillo in 1951. He was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Goforth are his wife, Mrs. Verna Goforth; three sons, Bob Goforth of Wellington, Leroy Goforth of Hacienda Heights, California and Denzil Goforth of Buena Park, California. There are 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Frank Goforth, Jr., who died as an infant.
