Elva Borslien, 80, Fertile, MN, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile. Elva Glendora (Hauge) Borslien was born August 18, 1933, to Thomas and Alma (Christianson) Hauge in Woodside Township, Polk County, Minnesota. She attended Woodside Country School, District 156, for three years. She transferred to Mentor Public School, after the country school closed, graduating in 1952. After a few years working as a Nanny in Grand Forks, Elva took employment as a nursing assistant, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN, where she worked for several years. On November 16, 1974, Elva was married to Nelfred Borslien of rural Fertile. The couple engaged in farming until retiring and moved to Fertile. Nelfred and Elva worked at the Steam Thrashers Reunion in Rollag, MN and enjoyed going to local events at churches, museums and towns. Elva entered the Riverview Care Center, Crookston, MN, in December 2010. She transferred to the Fair Meadow Nursing Home in April 2012, where she resided until death. Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Nelfred (2011), her parents, brothers: Sidney, Aurel, and Efnor; and a sister Lillian Moen. She is survived by two brothers, Trygve (Beatrice) Hauge and Carrol (Mavis) Hauge, both in the Twin Cities, sister-in-law, Emma Borslien, Crookston, MN, several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Elva was an active member of Maple Bay Lutheran Free Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married. She enjoyed doing crafts, especially with ceramic figurines. In her later years she worked on word search puzzles. She remained active until the last few months and was a joy to the nursing home staff. Elva will be sorely missed by the family and all those who came to know her. While earthly sadness prevails the heavens are rejoicing that another dear saint has come home to joyful bliss.
