Ms. Armentrout was born January 19, 1907, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Robert Layton and Minnie Flook Armentrout.
She graduated from Harrisonburg High School. In 1936, she received a bachelor of science degree in education from Madison College (now James Madison University), Radford Teachers College and Bridgewater College.
She retired in 1969 after teaching for 38 years at Forestville, Lacey Spring, Broadway Elementary, and John C. Myers. While at Lacey Spring, she served as principal.
Ms. Armentrout was a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, the National Retired Teachers Association of Retired Persons, Virginia Retired Teachers Association and the Harrisonburg Rockingham Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Ann Hough will conduct a private graveside service at Lacey Spring Cemetery.
