Geneva Helen Alred Martin, 87, of Jacksonville passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Lincolnshire Place in Sycamore.

She was born on March 10, 1927, in Marrowbone Kentucky, the daughter of Tillman H. and Cora E. Capps Ballard. She married Gerald H. Alred on November 11, 1946. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1982. She married Edward Martin on September 4, 1993. She also was preceded in death by her son, Stephen G. Alred, on October 9, 2000; three brothers and two sisters, Lola Hurt, Lyle Ballard, Carson Ballard, Dennis Ballard and Flodena Bainbridge.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (John) Alred Lin of Lincolnshire and Joan (Stuart) Brandon of Sycamore; and six grandchildren, Spencer Alred, Seth Carrel, Colin and Elliott Brandon, and Nicholas and Graham Lin.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Waverly for more than 40 years and a member of Westfair Baptist Church and Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She enjoyed gardening and sewing in her free time. She lived life to the fullest each day and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville with burial at Waverly East Cemetery.
