Scrapyard Owner is Shot to Death.

Louis Aber, co-owner of the Aber Iron and Metal Co. scrap yard at 1310 North Seventeenth Street, was shot to death this morning in the scrap yard.

Police said Aber was apparently the victim of a robbery attempt. At the city morgue it was reported that he was shot in the back. Police found two pistols at the scene- Aber's own pistol beside his body and another pistol, cocked, on a loading dock nearby.

Aber's revolver had been fired four times, police said. The other weapon, though fully loaded, had not been fired, they said.

The body was found at 6:50 a.m. by a passer-by, Charles LaBryer of O'Fallon. Police said they found $387.90 in bills and change on Aber's body.

Aber, 63 years old lived at 5825 DeGiverville Avenue. He owned and operated the scrap yard with his brother Arthur, 61, who lives at 3 Cher-El Lane, Ladue. Arthur Aber told police that he and his brother arrived at the scrap yard of 6:30 a.m. Arthur said he went to a nearby coffee shop for breakfast and Louis went inside the yard.

Arthur told the police that when he returned from breakfast, he met the passer-by who told him he had found Louis in the drive-way. Louis Aber was pronounced dead at the Hospital.
