Aaron W. Morrison, 95 year old Checotah resident, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 in Checotah. He was born on Wednesday, April 2, 1919 to James Z. and Lucy Idella (Hampton) Morrison in Garland, OK. Aaron was raised in Council Hill and attended Tamaha Elementary School in 1925, Stigler Jr. High School and Council Hill High School where he finished the 10th grade. He accepted Jesus Christ at age 15 in Tamaha, OK, in 1934 and received baptism of the Holy Spirit in 1940 while plowing a field. At a young age Aaron wrote songs and played the guitar. The births of his son and daughter and a loving marriage to his first wife of 65 years were precious memories for Aaron. Aaron preached and taught Sunday school classes in several churches including, Assembly of God in Boynton, OK, First Baptist Church of Checotah, Pentecostal Holiness and Church of God, both in Checotah as well as the Methodist Church at Council Hill. Aaron operated and owned Aaron & Sons Garage in Council Hill for over 40 years. Aaron taught himself to weld both gas and electric. He enjoyed working with and for people and was known for keeping a neat shop and a neat lawn. Aaron and his wife, Elouise used push mowers, planted trees, dug holes for the sign "The Church of God" and cleaned the Council Hill Cemetery. People donated money for the fencing and the gate and it has been kept up since. Other significant memories for him were receiving special recognition for his work at Okmulgee Hospital where he worked as Chief Engineer for 13 years at Okmulgee Hospital and receiving "Employee of the Month," traveling, visiting relatives and many memories of friends all along the way of his life. He had loving memories of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and when he met his wife Wilma Jane at the Checotah First Baptist Church and especially the day he married her on Tuesday, December 14, 2004. They had a fun wedding and a happy life together every day in the Lord. Aaron loved animals especially his dog named "Mosco" who hunted like a greyhound. He loved sweets and homemade goods of any kind. Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Elouise; son, Howard Morrison of Muskogee; daughter, Nina Jean Morrison of Oklahoma City; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
