Vernon Clyde Willits Sr., died at his home on September 28, 2006. Friends and family are invited to gather at his home at 219 - 9th Avenue in Camanche for a celebration of his life on this Monday, October 2nd from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. A private burial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Camanche.

He was the son of Clara and Clyde Willits. He grew up in South Clinton. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1938 he attended welding school and worked as a welder for 41 years at Climax Engine Works. After his retirement he continued to use his welding talent to create metal art along side his son in their studio.

During World War II he served in the Army Air Force as a Communication Specialist stationed in New Caledonia.

He married Thelma Hintz Willits on August 30, 1942. Together they raised four children: Three girls and a boy who survive him.

He was a loving, giving and proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, as well as loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Vern had a passion for life that he exhibited throughout his 86 years. He shared his love of the outdoors and nature, appreciation for the arts, joy of traveling with family and friends and greeting friends as he bicycled around Camanche. He lived his life well and actively until his passing.

Survivors include his children and grandchildren, brothers: and a sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Camanche Volunteer Fire Department.
