Carl Henry Matzke, 85, of Owatonna, died at KODA Living Community, July 13, 2014.

Funeral service is set for 11:00 am Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Associated Church in Owatonna. Interment will be at a later date at Owatonna Memorial Gardens. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour before the time of service on Thursday.

Carl was born at home in Steele County on Sept. 6, 1928, the son of Henry Carl & Lillian (Melby) Matzke. He attended District 29 country school through the 8th grade. On June 28, 1950, he was united in marriage to Annie M. Bauer at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, MN. Carl enjoyed dancing & listening to Old Tyme music, playing cards, telling a good joke, and going to softball & baseball games that his daughter, son-in-law & grandson played in.
Carl farmed in Merton township with his Dad most of his life. Other jobs included bartending at A&P bar, selling cars for Southside Motors, applying fertilizer for K&A of Claremont, & delivering for NAPA Auto Parts until retiring in 2001.
He served on the District 2106 school board. He was a member of the Eagles club and the Associated Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie, daughter Debbie (Rick) Piepho, of Owatonna, grandchildren Crystalee (Brendan) Hagen of Gainesville, VA, Rodney Piepho of Rochester, MN & Ryan (Renee) Piepho of Owatonna, great-grandchildren Everett Hagen of Gainesville, VA, Reese & Cora Piepho of Owatonna, a sister, Marjorie Jones of Owatonna & several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mildred Schmoll.
Memorials are preferred to the Associated Church, Hospice, the Diabetes Association or the donors choice.
