Tom was born at home in northeast Minneapolis and baptized at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 813 Main St. NE., Minneapolis, MN.

In his third year of life, he moved with his parents twenty miles northeast to Oneka Township, Washington County, MN where they opened a farm. He grew up working on the family farm, oldest of ten children, and he helped his dad in the family ice harvesting and delivery business.

After marriage to neighbor Catherine Thein, Tom moved back to Minneapolis where he became a patrolman beginning in 1909 and soon after promoted to detective with the Minneapolis Police Dept. On the job, he was apparently quick afoot--a fast runner--and his criminal chasing and arrest success was featured in local papers including one front page news story in the Minneapolis Tribune.

He and wife Kate had five sons, Walter b 1905, Tom b. 1907, Donald b. 1910, George b. 1912 and William b. 1925. They owned a home at 4104 41st Ave. S., Minneapolis.

He served a short sentence at the Stillwater Penitentiary on a 1931 forgery charge (Minneapolis Tribune 22 February 1931) and later, after being demoted, left his family and moved in with another woman. Tom committed suicide by .38 pistol in Minneapolis suburb of Crystal, Minnesota at age 71 years old in 1953. written by Gregory Dorr
