Alice Carter
Alice Evelyn Carter of Buffalo passed away peacefully on March 27, 2004 at Buffalo Hospital at the age of 93.
She was born December 10, 1910 in Otisco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to Julius and Anna (Buker) Sommers. She graduated from Waseca High School and the Minnesota School of Business.
She was united in marriage to Bernard I. Carter on January 17, 1943 in Abilene, Texas. They lived in Redwood Falls, Minn. for several years before moving to Buffalo, where they resided for over 54 years.
Alice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Buffalo, and was very active in church activities. She had worked in the office at Buffalo Hospital for many years. Alice enjoyed sewing, crocheting and tatting as well as cooking and baking, singing in the choir and playing the piano. She volunteered for various community activities, especially the Buffalo Hospital Auxiliary, and worked many hours at the hospital gift shop.
Alice is survived by her husband Bernard of Buffalo; children Robert (Mary) Carter of Libertyville, Ill., Janet Carter of Racine, Wisc., Dale Carter of Coon Rapids, Minn. and Curtis (Linda) Carter of Houston, Tex. and six grandchildren Laurie (Michael) Johnson, Brian, Garren, David, Christine and Evan Carter. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Her parents and brother John Sommers preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church, Buffalo, preceded by visitation with her family at 9 a.m. Pastor John P. Folkerds will officiate. Interment will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. At Alice's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Church Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, or other charity of one's choice.
