John Wayne Durnell, 17, of Portersville Road, Wurtemburg, passed away unexpectedly Sunday in the Slippery Rock Creek near Kennedy's Mill.
John was born on April 27, 1997, in New Castle to Gregory W. and Karla Caccia Durnell.
He attended Lawrence County Vo Tech, where he studied in the machine shop.
John enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, playing air soft guns and participating in World War II re-enactments. John loved to spend time with his friends and with his little sister. John will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, John is survived by his sister, Jessica Leigh Durnell, at home; his maternal grandmother, Ethel Caccia of Wurtemburg; his paternal grandmother, Linda Durnell of Portersville; and his four uncles, John Caccia of Wurtemburg, Jason Caccia of Neville Island, Jeff (Dawn) Durnell of North Washington and Mark (Jodi) Durnell of Prospect.
John was preceded in death by his grandfathers, John Caccia and Gary Durnell.
Durnell - The friends of John Wayne Durnell, who passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Joseph A. Tomon Jr. Funeral Home, 97 Grim Ave., Ellwood City.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Dale Brenneman of Cowboys for Christ officiating. Interment will be private.
