Former state representative from the 45th District (served 4 years, elected in 1926) and former Sangamon county sheriff (1910-1914 and 1918-1922). Also served as a member of the Sangamon county board of supervisors for 14 years. Owner of Mester Bottling Co. for 30 years and one time owner of the Mester brick yards, retiring when he served as sheriff. Member St. Joseph's church, F.O.E., and the I.O.O.F. Married Annie Delaney who preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1941.

Survived by daughters Mrs. Henrietta Mills and Mrs. Dorothy Odie of Springfield, Mrs. W. H. Bradford of Los Angeles; sons Elmer and Willard of Springfield and brother William and sister Mrs. A. S. Bergschneider of Springfield; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
