Thomas Alvin Walker was one of five children born to Thomas M. Walker and Nancy Caroline Gage. His siblings were John D. Walker born in 1870, William J. Walker born in 1871, Maggie Aughtaway Walker born in 1976, and James Oscar Walker born in 1880.

In addition, he had half-brothers and sisters also born to his father:

In 1909 Thomas Alvin married Lillie Mae Hayes. They had six children: Thelma Parthenia "Dixie", Norma Alberta, Alvin Wesco "Rank", Nina Lucille, Thomas Ralph "Junior", and Vivian Delores.

Quoting his obituary from "The Gideon News" 15 March 1957:
"T.A. Walker Passes Away at Age of 74
Thomas Alvin Walker, 74, well-known resident of Gideon, passed away at his residence on Friday, March 8th. He had lived in and around Gideon all of his life, having been born in Malden on March 22, 1887.

His funeral was held in the First Baptist Church in Gideon on Sturday, March 9th, with the Rev. William Hill of Malden in charge. Interment took place in the Malden Cemetary, Russell Mortuary service.

The pallbearers were Burl Ellsworth, Vernon Ellsworth, Dave Ellsworth, Donald Bufford, James Bufford and Linis Hayes.

He was united in marriage to Miss Lilly Mae Hayes and to this union was born six children.

He is survived by the widow, Lillie Mae Walker, and six children, Mrs. Thelma Petty, Dexter; Mrs. Norma Keene, Three Rivers, Texas; Alvin Walker, St. Louis; Mrs. Jack Campbell, Gideon; Mrs. H. I. Randolph, Gideon, Junior Walker, Gideon; two brtohers John Walker and Bill Walker, Crockett, Texas; two half-brothers, Arthur Walker, Flint, Michigan, and Raymond Walker, Peoria, Illinois; two half-sisters, Mrs. Pansy Kitchen, Bernie, and Mrs. Lena Pippin; one step-sister, Mrs. Nelle Trowbridge, Malden; several grandchildren."

Mr. Walker's obituary stated he was born in 1887; however, his grave marker states his date of birth as 1882.
