LEBANON, Va. Billy Ray Collins, age 83, completed his journey here on Earth Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Billy was born May 10, 1931, he lived his childhood and young adult life in Virginia, later moving to Michigan, to work in the automotive industry. He was employed by Metal Fab for 30 years upon his retirement in 1986. He returned to his roots in Russell County, Va., where he was a beloved and active member in the Mocassin Valley community. He was a member of the Oak Grove Senior Citizens and a member of the Free Hill Baptist Church of Nicklesville, Va. He was a member of the Copper Creek Mocassin Fire Department for 16 years before becoming assistant fire chief in 2008. His masonic membership was at Stuarts Lodge, of Lebanon, Va. He enjoyed 54 years of marriage to Love Joyce Jessee Collins who preceded him in death in 2006. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Sylvia Collins; three brothers, Emory Lee Collins, Aaron Woodrow Collins and Emmett Collins; four sisters, Lucille Cox, Lois Wheatley, Lucille Jessee, and Peggy Gent; grandsons, Christopher Nance and Randy Collins; and granddaughter, Tanya Collins. Survivors include three sons, Roger Lee and wife Mary, Tawas, Mich., Billy Gene and wife Penny, Fenton, Mich., and David Wayne and wife Shelley, West Richland, Wash.; grandchildren, Denice Utter, Jessica Beyer, Mathew Collins, Jason Collins, Amy Harris, Elizabeth Collins, and Lexi Collins; special great-nieces, Katie and Kelsey Wise; and special niece and nephew, Darlene and James Wise. Also 9 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews survive. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Larry Beavers and the Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va. Serving as pallbearers will be Chief Sonny Austin and members of the Mocassin Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014, at the funeral home.
