Richard Dennis Carter, age 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on July 17, 2014 at the Salem Hospital in Salem Oregon.

Rich was born January 23, 1947, in Cedar City, Utah, to Sherman Ward Carter and Clara Mae White Carter. He spent many wonderful years growing up in Beaver, Utah, and was so proud of his hometown and the many friends and memories that he made growing up there.

Richard served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the North Central States Mission.

He attended Southern Utah State University where he received a B.A. Degree in Music Education. While attending SUU, Richard met the love of his life Geri Barton while in a Music Theory class. They both formed a music quartet where they performed at many SUU and church events.

Richard married Geri Barton Carter on June 26, 1970 in the St George, Utah Temple where they were sealed for time and all eternity. They spent many years performing and singing together at numerous church events and among family. Music was very important and was always played in his home. Richard was able to play many musical instruments.

Both he and Geri were blessed to be parents of six children His children were his treasures in life and he adored them all.

Richard worked as a Music Teacher at Beaver High School for three years where he was adored by his students. While in College, he found that he had a great love of the radio and worked as a Radio Announcer and fixed up radio stations for over 30 years in many locations.

Richard was known for his perfect pitch and also worked within his own piano business The Loony Tuner where he tuned pianos. Richard also served faithfully for his church as a Bishop in Grants, New Mexico, and in many other bishoprics and High Councils.

He had a great love of dancing and singing. His wife Geri says he was the most amazing dancer and singer around. Richard was known for his quiet strength and humor. His family loved to see him perform his corny jokes and he brought much laughter into his family. Richard had a great love for his grandkids and loved to tease them.

Richard loved his Beaver Mountains and almost every year, took his grandkids on rides on the back of his truck throughout the mountains and by the lakes.

Everywhere Richard went he gave love and service. He will be missed by so many.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents: Sherman Ward and Clara Mae Carter and his children: Kori Lynn ,Russell Sherman and Amy Marie.

Richard's family would like to thank Southern Utah Mortuary, the staff at Salem Oregon Hospital along with Richard's cousin Melvin Carter and Brother in Law, Noel Robinson for the many years of medical services rendered. Also a special thanks to Brad Robinson along with other family and friends in Beaver, Utah.
