Norma E. Allen age 81 of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, May 27, 2015 at her home. She was born March 24, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Edward and Ruby Carlisle Smith. Mrs. Allen had retired after more than thirty years of service as an elementary school teacher for the East Clinton Schools. She was a member of the Horizon Community Church in Cincinnati, a lifetime member of the National Education Assn., a lifetime member of the Ohio Education Assn., a member of the Clinton County Retired Teachers Assn., and a former adjunct professor at Southern State Community College. Mrs. Allen was a graduate of New Vienna High School, received her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1965 from Wilmington College and received her Masters of Arts in Education from Xavier University in 1974. Mrs. Allen was an avid bridge player, artist, member of Marielders, and enjoyed travelling. In recent years, Mrs. Allen was a devoted volunteer for hospice and at City Gospel Mission. She is survived by three children, Valerie (Armin Mersmann) Allen of Midland, Michigan, Victor (Lucy) Allen of Hillsboro, Wendy (Greg) Long of Mariemont, eleven grandchildren, James (Yuteng Ma) Loop, Ean Mersmann, Shay Allen, Brady (Amber) Allen, Jenni (Joey) Parsons, Gwen and Adam Gunkel, Maxwell, Samuel, Julia and Jameson Long, three great grandchildren, one brother, William (Lila Marie) Garrett of Texas, brother-in-law, David (Shirley) Allen of Hillsboro, sister-in-law, Sue (Tony) Lamke of Wilmington, one half sister, Linda Lee Neal of Williamsburg, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Allen on May 28, 2005 and an infant son, Vincent James Allen. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the New Vienna IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the Turner & Son Funeral Home.
