Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tonya Elmore and Rev. Kenny Spivey officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Searcy Funeral Home.

Born in Abbeville on Nov. 13, 1915, James spent most of his adult life in Enterprise. He retired from the US Postal Service and was the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church of Enterprise. James was an avid outdoorsmen who loved to camp, fish and hunt. When mobility limited him in recent years, he enjoyed riding his scooter around the block just to enjoy God's creation.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Lois Murphy Spivey, Enterprise; one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Harvey (Michelle) Murphy, North Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Delores Murphy (Jed Webster), Huntsville; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Irving and Jan Murphy, Enterprise, and Richard and Farrie Murphy, Dothan; two grandchildren, Richard Moquin, Colorado; Anna-Marie Murphy, Auburn; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mrs. Gladys Wilkes Murphy; one sister, Helen Murphy; two brothers, Luke Murphy and Heath Murphy.
Special thanks to Gran-Gran's caregivers T.J. Reeves and Michelle Thompson for their dedication to his care in recent years.
