Vickie grew up in Morgan County and graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1980. She had worked at various locations in Martinsville, the most recent was as a cashier at Save-a-lot. She was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family and every moment spent with them. On October 11, 2003 she married her soul mate and best friend, Jesse McWhorter. She and Jesse were inseparable and an example of true love.
Vickie was quite talented with her hands and enjoyed painting ceramics, drawing, writing poetry and crossword puzzles. She also took pleasure in watching TV, collecting wind chimes and birdhouses. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten for her kind and loving spirit and ability for always putting others needs before her own.
She leaves behind a host of loving family who mourn her loss including her mother, Merideth Vickrey; husband, Jesse McWhorter of Martinsville; son, Travis James Ewing of Mooresville; daughter, Brittany Jo (husband, Joshua) Self of Martinsville; brother, Eric Vickrey of Bloomington; sisters, Judy (husband, Jeff) Vandagrifft of Martinsville and Linda Vickrey of Elletsville; and grandchildren, Destiny Rhea and Draven Joel Sanders, Wyatt Nathan and Levi Joshua Self.
She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Gary Vickrey.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, July 15th from 5-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral service on Wednesday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. Rev. Keenan Steinway will conduct a service celebrating Vickie's life on Wednesday, July 16th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and she will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Indiana.
