Katherine was said to be mentally challenged. I believe she may have suffered a mental breakdown due to her family situation; her mother was absent through most of her life and her father was unable to care for both her and her brother.
In the 1940 census of Swain County, at age 21, she is listed living with her father, but records also indicate she had previously been at Piedmont Hospital, a sanatorium, located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kathryn was a lovely woman, kind and gentle, I remember her well. Her artistic talents were most impressive. She lived in the home of her father until the time of his death.
She later lived alone, moving to Henderson County, NC. After the death of her father, Kathryn would move to Baldwin County, Georgia where she would live near her brother, Jay Allen Glenn, Jr and wife Polly.
She was 76-years of age.
