HERALD AND ADVERTISER, COWETA COUNTY GEORGIA
Sept 1, 1899 DEATH OF A GOOD CITIZEN
The death of Mr J J Farmer Sr, which has been momentarily expected for several days, occurring yesterday morning at his home near Sharpsburg. He had been confined to his bed about a month, and the increasing infirmities of age rendered him an easy pray to the disease which finally carried him off. The end came peacefully at last, so peacefully, indeed, that death seemed merely a transition from earthly existence to life eternal.
Deceased had reached his 74th year, and was one of Coweta's best and most highly esteemed citizens. He was born in Oglethorpe county, and spent his boyhood days there. In 1856 he moved to Coweta, and continued to reside in this county until his death. In 1886 and 1887 he was elected Tax Receiver, and filled this office most creditably and acceptably.
He was a member of the Baptist church, and took an active interest in all matters pertaining to its welfare, as well as to the cause of Christianity generally.
He reared a large family, who are among Coweta's most substantial and influential citizens, and all of who reflect credit upon their parental training. His children are Rev. John J Farmer of Reynolds GA, Mr R A Farmer of Atlanta, Mrs Lizzie Nolan of Griffin, Mrs Alice Sanford of Haralson Co, Mrs L L North of Sharpsburg, two unmarried daughters, Misses Beatrice and Grace Farmer, and Messrs. T G Farmer, L M Farmer and M C Farmer of this city.
The funeral took place this morning at Sharpsburg, services being conducted by his pastor, Rev J B S Davis, assisted by Rev. H S Rees, of Turin. A Large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
