1873 April 14, State of Missouri, County of Chariton, Probate File No. 623: In the matter of Alex Grotjans Estate August Grotjan says that to the best of his knowledge and belief, the names of the heirs of the said Alex Grotjan, deceased, and their places of residence are, respectively, as follow: Mary Ann Grotjan a minor under 14 years of age a resident of Chariton County, that the said Alex Grotjan died without a will; that he will make a perfect inventory of and faithfully administer all the Estate of the deceased and pay the debts as far as the assets will extend and the law direct, and account for and pay all assets which shall come to his possession or knowledge. [signed by] August Grotjan. Subscribed and sworn to before me, this 14th day of April A. D. 1873, O F Smith, Judge of Probate. Recorded on page no. 132.

1873 April 3, Bond of Guardian and curator: "We, August Grotjahn, as Principal, and John Steinman and William Bitter, as Securities, are held and firmly bound unto the State of Missouri, in the sum of two thousand dollars, for the payment which we bind ourselves and our heirs: Upon the condition, that whereas the said August Grotjahn has been appointed by the Probate Court of chariton County, Missouri, Guardian of the person and Curator of the Estate of Elizabeth Mary (Ann has been lined out) Grotjan of said county, minor heir of Alex Grotjan, deceased, under the age of twenty-one years. Now, if the said August Grotjahn shall faithfully discharge his duties as said Guardian and Curator, according to law, then this bond to be void; otherwise to remain in full force and effect. In Testimony whereof, we have hereto set our hands and affixed our seals at Keytesville in said county, this third day of April A. D. 1873.
