Alonzo Abbott, a widower, age 78 died of chronic bronchitis at the town poor farm. He had been occupied as a shoemaker and dealer in boots and shoes. In 1878 he moved his Boot and Shoe Establishment from the Fay's block to the old J. & R. Mansfield and L. W. Lawrence stand. He closed his shop in the Howard block in 1890 because of poor health.
