Obituary: "Mrs. Maria Edleman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Horton, in this city, Tuesday morning at 1:30, aged 84 years. She was born April 30, 1812, at Ellentown [Allentown], Pa., and married at 18 years of age to Harvey Allen. As a fruit of this union there are two children living, Mrs. Jane Withers, of Jackson, Minn., and Mrs. Mary Horton. After Mr. Allen's death, his widow was married to Mr. McQuillan in 1838, and they moved to Fillmore county, in this state. They had twelve children, eight of whom are living. There are 45 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Mrs. McQuillan spent about a year near Wadena 15 years ago, with her son, George S. McQuillan, of Deer Creek. She returned home again two years ago, to live with her daughter. She was an earnest Christian woman, and her faith grew brighter unto the end. Just before her death she repeated the twenty-third Psalm, and also chose the text from which she wished her funeral sermon preached. The services were held at the house Wednesday afternoon, by Rev. John Knight, and the remains were taken to Aitkin, where her son, F. P. McQuillan resides, for interment." --Wadena County Journal, April 17, 1896.
