ALICE LEE SMITH BEVIS

Alice Lee Smith Bevis, age 83, of Sheffield, died Saturday, May 17, 2003 at Helen Keller Hospital, after an extended illness.

The funeral will be Monday, May 19, 2003, at 12 p.m., at Morrison Funeral Home Chapel in Tuscumbia. The Rev. Ernie Emmons will officiate.

Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia.

Mrs. Bevis was born August 27, 1919, in McCracken County, KY,, to the late Ira Lee and Minnie Robinson Smith.

She was married to James J. Bevis on June 6, 1936. He passed away January 23, 1964.

Mr. and Mrs. Bevis opened Bevis Grocery in Sheffield in 1947, and she continued to operate the business until 1967.

She was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Sheffield.

She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Sharon Pace and Lisa Bevis; three brothers, Dorris, Kenneth and Jack Smith; one sister, Mary Lou Smith; and stepmother, Dollie Smith.

Mrs. Bevis is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Helen Bevis of Muscle Shoals, Roy and Linda Bevis of Cherokee, Elmer and Martha Bevis of Tuscumbia, and Larry and Wanda Bevis of Muscle Shoals; two daughers and sons-in-law, Mary Alice and Kenneth Pace of Sheffield, and Sandy and Welty Lovelady of Sheffield; two brothers, Charles William "Bill" Smith and wife, Barbara, of Kentucky, and Leon Smith and wife, Patty, of South Carolina; four sisters, Mildred Bishop and husband, Bill, of Kentucky, Evelyn Jeffers and husband, Bob, of Ohio, Mable Rust of Kentucky and Nancy Adams and husband, Mike, of Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Grace Johnson of Sheffield and Hazel Bevis of Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and speccial friends, Charlotte Peebles, Sarah Tubbs and Brenda Griggs.

Pallbearers will be Michael, Kenny and Kevin Bevis, Scotty and Terry Lovelady and Carl Tubbs.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to Dr. Ashmore and his staff for the care during her illness.

Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia is directing.
