Mary Ann Lowmiller was born Mary Ann Purviance, the daughter of Sarah Maxson Purviance and Dr. Thomas Harlan Purviance. She entered the world November 9, 1841 in Ohio.Her brothers and sisters were: Joseph Franklin Purviance, Nathan Maxson Purviance, Thomas Harlan Purviance, Susannah Prviance, Samuel Thompson Purviance, and William A. Purviance. On May 25, 1863, she married David Lowmiller and became his wife in Cadiz, Ohio. He, just returning from a stint in the Civil War and ready to get on with his life. They had Valerie Vienna Lowmiller, Nathan T. Lowmiller, Ernest W. Lowmiller, larinda Lowmiller, and Emmett H. Lowmiller.Mary Anns life was sometimes hard. Her husband ran the flour milles in Salinsvile and later became a grocer, but primarily his heart lay in farming. The Obituary of Mrs.Mary Ann Lowmiller. Jan-3-1928: Mrs Mary Ann Lowmiller, 87, died early Saturday morning at the home of her daughter Mrs. Elmer Dunlap, 1711 Rowland Avenue, N.E.Canton. She had been in ill health for several years. Mrs. Lowmiller, till May of this year, had lived with her son near Watsville, Ohio. Surviving are five children, Ernest, of the home, Mrs. John Barr(Valerie Vienna) of Steubenville, Ohio, Mrs. Bertie Dunlap and Mrs Clarinda Hale, both of Canton and Emmett of Cleveland. A brother Samuel Purviance, Stockton, California, eight grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Church. services for Mrs. Lowmiller will be held at the home of her daughter Mrs. Dunlap tuesday evening at 8 P.M. Rev. Dr. P.H. Weishimer, pastor of First Christian Church will officiate The body will be taken to Steubenville Wednesday morning where services will be held in the First Christian Church.
