He was an Army veteran of World War II, a graduate of Erskine College and received a Masters degree at the University of S.C. He was employed in public education for 37 years. He retired from Richland School District #1, serving as principal for 23 years at Heyward Gibbes Middle School. A member of Centennial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church since 1946, he was an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of the Optimist Club.
He was predeceased by 9 brothers and sisters.
