John was born in Canada, then immigrated with his parents, three sisters & brother in October 1919. The family settled in Springboro, Crawford County, Pa. where his father's sister lived.
John married Grace Alice Prussia on 18 Jan 1938, they had no children, but raised Claude and Robert Hayes, Graces' sister Geneva Hayes' boys after Geneva passed away in 1938. John was a self employed dairy farmer and also operated The Gribus Tannery. His hobby was playing a violin and making leather products from leather he tanned. John also played the guitar.
After John passed away, Grace went to live at the Edinboro Manor in Edinboro, Pa.
