Lynn was born in Clifton, Texas, to William Herald and Fayrene (Cox) Tharp. He attended Clifton public schools. Lynn married Chery Powers on April 12, 1963 in Valley Mills. He worked in the construction field for many years, and for various CAT dealers, retiring from Holt CAT in Waco after 30 years of service.
Lynn was an amateur radio operator(KB5TDZ) for many years. Having this license allowed him to be the Emergency Management Coordinator for Valley Mills. He was also active in the Bosque County Amateur Radio club in which he served as president for many years. Lynn served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Valley Mills for several years and was active with the VMVFD for years. He was formerly a member of the Texas National Guard. Lynn proudly served as deacon at Oak Grove Baptist Church, he loved his Lord God and that was obvious to any one who knew him.
Lynn was preceded in death by his father, William Harold Tharp; and in-laws, Bill and Hazel Powers, of Valley Mills.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Cheryl; son, Jason Tharp and wife, Stephanie, of Groesbeck; grandchildren, Elias and Ivy Tharp, of Groesbeck; his mother, Fayrene Tharp, of Clifton; many nieces, nephews, cousins; Cheryl's niece, Kimberly Savage, who was their driver to the many long trips to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital these past three years.
