In 1870 James was listed in the Census as a carpenter and was living with his parents and siblings and son, Henry/Harry, age 5. His first wife, Nettie Halstead, had died. She was this little boy's mother.

By 1880, he was shown to be with his wife Charlotte and working on the Manhattan Electric RR. His son was living with his Uncle Charles E Bogert and was named Henry. In that Census, Henry was listed as Charles' son, but in fact Henry was James' son.

In 1881 his wife had died early and he died four years later in 1885.

With their ages being so young at the time of their death, it is thought that they may had contracted an infectious disease.

Burial location was provided by the Association of Blauvelt Descendants site.
