His early life was spent at Mercer, Mo. In 1891 he was married to Miss Ada Olive Flowers at Yorktown, Ia. To this union six children were born, one daughter, Florence, dying in infancy, and the oldest son, Merle Richard, dying March 5, 1918 at Huron at the age of 23 years. Mrs. Alley died March 20, 1916.
He came to Huron from Mercer with his family in 1907 and farmed near Huron until after his wife's death. Since then his main interest in life was with his children, always helping them in any way he could, and he will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services were held February 11 at the Wilkert Chapel. The Rev. T.H. Joeckel officiating. Internment was in Riverside Cemetery beside his wife.
