Mary Ann (Rauch) Shearer, widow of John N. Shearer, and grandmother of Paul S. Althouse, well-known Metropolitan Opera tenor, passed away at 7:30 o'clock Thursday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Harry J. Althouse, 425 Elm street. She was 83 years of age and for years was an active member of the First Reformed Church. She was a member of the Mite Society connected with the congregation. Infirmities brought on by advancing years was the cause of her death. Mrs. Shearer had been bedridden eight weeks.
Deceased was born at Fleetwood and was the last of her immediate family. Her husband died a year ago. Besides Mrs. Althouse, her daughter, and Mr. Althouse, grandson, already mentioned, deceased leaves two great-grandchildren: Rita Mary and Pauline Althouse, living with their parents in New York city. Mr. Althouse was apprised of his grandmother's death by wire.
