Joseph V. Muscara, a builder/horseman, of Huntingdon Valley, Pa., originally from South Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at his residence Monday, July 7, 2014. He was 90.

Joe was the beloved husband of Lorraine for 64 years. He was the loving father of Joseph G. (wife Johanna), Cheryl (husband John) Rondinelli, Lori (husband Mark Heron) Muscara, Robert (wife Barbara), and Mark (wife Kristie); and grandfather of Denise, Cheryl Ann, Tracy, Gina, Matthew, Joe, Mark, Bella, Caroline and Nicholas.

He will be sadly missed by other family members, his many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and by all who knew him.

Joe was a local residential and commercial builder for more than four decades in the suburban Philadelphia area. He built hundreds of residential homes including homes in Green Ridge and Justa Farms/ Albidale in Huntingdon Valley and Tannerie Run in Fort Washington. He also developed Jacksonville Road Industrial Park in Ivyland.

Besides being a builder, Joe was also a distinguished and prolific harness race horse owner/ trainer since the early 70's and has owned hundreds of horses, including many champions. Joe started racing at Liberty Bell Park and Brandywine Raceway and went on to have horses which have won major championships, including the Meadowlands Pace, U.S. Pacing Championship and William Haughton Memorial in New Jersey, the Canadian Pacing Derby and Breeders Crown in Ontario, the Ben Franklin Championship in Pennsylvania, the Bobby Quillen Memorial in Delaware and the Allerage in Kentucky. To this day, he continues to have race horses vying for major championships.

Joe also proudly served in the Army during World War II. He was also a member of Cedar-brook Country Club in Blue Bell for more than 50 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Sunday, July 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Rd., Huntingdon Valley, Pa. There will also be a viewing Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Knowles Road and 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966, Monday July 14, from 10 to 10:30 a.m., immediately followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. His interment will be in West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.
