BUDD H. ADAMS
HECTOR - Budd H. Adams, of 5496 Rt. 414, Hector, passed away unexpectedly at Schuyler Hospital on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at the age of 83.
Born in Elmira, New York on December 9, 1924, Budd was the son of Paul and Ruth Budd Adams. Raised in Hector, just down the road from his grandparents' farm, Budd spent much of his time riding and caring for horses. He graduated from Alfred Tech and completed coursework at Cornell. From the mid 60's to the mid 80's Budd worked in Automotive Sales, retiring from the Sales Manager position at Cayuga Ford in Ithaca. Budd also worked for Babcock's for many years and raised chickens on his farm, at one time raising 30,000 chicks in a four-story chicken house.
Budd's love of horses grew with him throughout life as he became an accomplished horseman. He raced horses and enjoyed serving as Race Secretary for the Trumansburg Fair for 20 years. As he bought, trained and sold horses, it was common to see "Uncle Budd", as he was fondly called, giving carriage rides around Hector. He also gave tractor rides but his smile was never wider than when he placed a child up in the saddle for their first horseback ride. Budd also gave willingly of his time as a volunteer with the Valois-Hector-Logan Volunteer Fire Department since the early 50's. He was a lifelong member of the Hector Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder for many years.
Budd is survived by his wife of 22 years, Nancy Irwin Adams; six children, Dr. Stephen (Emalese) Adams of West Lafayette, IN, M. Jeffrey (Cynthia) Adams of Wheaton, IL, Scott (Sandie) Grooms of Lansing, NY, Sally Adams (Francis) Ward of Rush, NY, Wendy Muka of Lansing, NY, and Tracy Grooms of Freeville, NY; 17 grandchildren, Patrick, Kimberly, April, Anne, Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, Abigail, Michael, Matthew, Sheli, Stephanie, Kelsey, Haleigh, Nathan, Scott and Josie; one great-granddaughter, Genevieve; two sisters, Jean Bishop of Montour Falls, and Martina White of Belle Chasse, LA; two brothers, Bruce (Marian) Adams and Richard (Elizabeth) Adams of Hector; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg.
Services will be held at the Hector Presbyterian Church, Rt. 414, Hector, on Friday, June 27, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John Elder officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery located directly behind the church.
The family asks those who wish to remember Budd in the form of a contribution to kindly consider the Valois-Hector-Logan Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 46, Hector, NY 14841.
