A very unfortunate accident occured in the Clear Lake District yesterday in which a man and a hero passed away to the Great Beyond. While out bathing with his little brother and another young boy, David Schmitendorf was suddenly taken seriously sick and trying to get in a boat which was near by, upset it precipitating the two boys in the water. Realizing that his condition was such as to render all hope for himself out of the question and knowing his younger brother would be able to swim ashore he endeavored to push the other boy to the top of the overturned boat and finding he was not able to do so, he did what he could and as he went down his last words were "Get up Frank" and immediately sank to his death.
Mr Schmitendorf was 22 years old and an most exemplary young man the hope and stay of his parents whom he loved dearler than his own life and his manly character was of such sterling qualityas the world can ill afford to lose. All who knew and loved and admired him and join his bereaved family in mourning his loss.
