Susie Scroggin Palmer, daughter of Alfred and Rebecca Scroggin, was born January 8, 1866, near DeKalb, Illinois and passed away at Hartley, Iowa, November 21, 1937, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 13 days.
When a child she moved with her parents to Monona County, Iowa and later to Calhoun County near Lake City, Iowa. Here she resided until 1893 when she moved with her husband to Ocheyedan, Iowa. The past four years she had made her home in Hartley.
On December 25, 1889, she was united in marriage to Charls D. Palmer of Lake City, Iowa. To this union nine children were born, one daughter, Lulu, preceded her in death about 8 years ago. Those remaining to mourn her passing besides her husband are her children, Grace Burley, of Sioux Falls, SD, Bert of Worthington, Minnesota, Raymond, of Savannah, MO, Ethel Riemersma, of Brewster, Minnesota, Glenn and Alvin, of Hartington, Nebraska, Myrtle Burley, of Hartley, and Elmer at home, and 18 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ella Parker, of Rockwell City, Iowa, four brothers, Oscar of Spencer, IA; Charlie and Lee, of Lake City, IA, and Leu of Los Angeles, CA, also survive.
Mrs. Palmer united with Christian Church of Lake City, Iowa when a young girl and to this faith remained faithful until her death.
She was a good wife and a kind and loving mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
She had been in poor health for a good many years, being affected with asthma and heart trouble.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Foley Funeral Home with Rev. Fulcomer officiating. Interment was made in the Ocheyedan Cemetery.
