Prominent Citizen Joins Silent Throng

Henry W. Osterday, in declining health the past two and a half years, passed away at 6 o'clock Thursday morning. Although very feeble, he had been about the house, sitting on the porch on Monday, and in the evening sat at the supper table. Shortly after supper time he broke down completely, and suffered intensely until 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, when he lapsed into unconsciousness.

The deceased was a son of Benjamin and Eliza M. Osterday. He was born in Lehigh county, Pa., Aug. 12, 1855, and was therefore just seven days past 71. In 1865 the family came to this county, settling on a place a mile east of Mulberry. Later on the farm now owned by D. H. Keefer became the Osterday home.

On Oct. 12, 1881, Mr. Osterday was united in marriage with Miss Laura Alice Clark, daughter of Augustus F. and Ann Catherine Clark, of this county. They began their wedded life on the old Osterday homestead, west of town, but in a few years built the house now owned by Mr. Keefer, where they lived a number of years. Selling this place they bought the old Earhart hotel property and made it their home for several years. Selling this place, they built the present home on Main street. Ever since leaving the farm, Mr. Osterday has engaged in the real estate, loan and insurance business.

The deceased is survived by the wife and a daughter, Mrs. G. L. Adams; one brother, Milton J. Osterday, of Lafayette, and five sisters, Mrs. I. S. Earhart, Mrs. Nettie Earhart and Mrs. Ida Lane, Mulberry; Mrs. Maggie Harshman, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Effie Jacobs, Earl Park, Ind.

The deceased was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and the Methodist church. The funeral service will be conducted at the house, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, by Rev. A. L. Brandenburg.

The funeral is not to be private. The family invites the public to attend.
