Mazie Alma Smith, 91 of Dugspur, departed this life on December 29, 2008. She was born in Carroll County to the late Fredrick & Essie Marshall Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Lake Haynes, Merle Eanes and Isabelle Thompson and a brother William Smith. Left behind to cherish her memory are a sister & brother-in-law Ruth & Gail Nelson of Lorton, VA; a brother Levi S. Smith of Dugspur; and several nieces and nephews.
Though Mazie never married or had children of her own, she was mother to many. She was a wonderful person who cared for her mother, aunts, and many nieces and nephews in ways to numerous to count. She loved sewing, gardening and cooking. Anyone who ever came to her home never left hungry because she always made sure there was plenty for everyone. Those who ate her pumpkin pie know that there was none any better than Mazies. There are no amount of words that could express all the many acts of love and kindness Mazie showed to those she met and cared for. Her memory will be cherished forever by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. J.B. Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery.
