Phyllis Peterson, age 79, 180 J.B. Griffith Road passed away unexpectedly at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital Saturday, July 5, 2014, following a sudden illness. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County anda daughter of the late William and Pauline Runion Moore. Ms. Peterson was member of Shallow Ford Free Will Baptist Church. She retired from Unicoi County Memorial Hospital as a R.N. after forty years of serving and caring for her patients. Ms. Peterson loved to travel, attend the annual nurses' reunion, and was a loving mother and grandmother to her family.

Other than her parents, Ms. Peterson was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Peterson, in 1981; a grandson, Corey Peterson, in 2007; one brother, Robert L. Moore, and one sister, Betty Salts.

She is survived by one son, William Rusty Peterson, Erwin, one granddaughter, Kaley Peterson, Erwin, one special great granddaughter, Kynzi Peterson, one sister, Jessie Taylor, Erwin, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral service for Ms. Peterson will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Zach Smith will officiate. Bobby Sumlin, Tommy Clouse, Anderson Pate, Doug Bowman, Robert Briggs, Roger Briggs, and Jimmy Pate will serve as pallbearers. Special music will be provided by Inez Chandler.The committal will be held in Evergreen Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service between the hours of 11:00 am to 12:45 pm.
In lieu of food and flowers memorial contributions in Ms. Peterson's memory can be made to the area chapter of the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Suite 102, Johnson City, TN 37601.
