Major William Wood Downs died Friday morming, Sept. 22, aged 80 years. Funeral today from the residence of Col. R. B. Parrott; burial at Oakwood Cemetery. Born Weldon, North Carolina, Aug. 12, 1802. To Morgan Co., Ga., as a child, with the family. Married Miss Henrietta Sparks, who survives.
In 1837, to Lawrence Co., Ala. To Waco in 1854. Purchased land in Waco and a planatation on the Brazos south of Waco. Of 10 children, 5 survive: Mrs. J.W. Maddin, wife of Dr. Maddin of Nashville, Tenn.; Mrs. R. B. Parrott; Mrs. John F. Marshall; Major J. W. Downs; and C. M. Downs.
